Freshman Josey Carney led NOC with 22 points in a 71-68 loss to Independence (KS) on Thursday.

Dani Milliner and Kyra Criss also reached double figures with 13 and 10 respectively.

"We're still improving, but still have a lot to work on," said coach Greg Krause.  "We need to change turnovers into shot attempts. Our pressure defense and three-point shooting were a plus."

The Lady Mavs shot 37% from the floor and 42% from 3-point range.  The Lady Mavs were 59% (16-27) from the line.

Viola Tadja had nine rebounds while Criss and Carney added seven each

NOC trailed by as many as 12 and cut the lead late to 69-67 but Independence held on for the two point win.

The Lady Mavs (0-3) face Tabor JV Monday at the Foster-Piper Fieldhouse at 5:30 p.m.
