Northern Oklahoma College has chosen Rachel Janzen to lead the Lady Mavs Basketball program.

Janzen, an Oklahoma City native, spent the previous four seasons as an assistant at New Mexico Junior College.  The NMJC Thunderbirds were 112-22 in her four years with the program reaching the National Championship game in 2026.

Janzen is excited to lead the Lady Mavs program.

"I am excited and privileged to have this opportunity to make some life changing experiences for the Maverick Women's Basketball Team," Janzen said.  "Having a new holistic approach will develop young ladies both on and off the court.  After all, who you are as a person is just as important as what you are as a basketball player."

NOC Athletic Director Alan Foster said Janzen was an impressive candidate.

"We had many impressive candidates show interest in the opportunity to succeed Greg Krause," Foster said.  "After research and multiple interviews, it became clear that Rachel Janzen would be an excellent choice.  Her vast experience as both an assistant in quality programs, her previous head coaching experience as well as her Oklahoma roots checked a lot of boxes."

"I believe that student athletes under her direction will be prepared and achieve great things on and off the court," Foster added.  "I look forward to working with her as she takes our program to higher levels."

Prior to her stint at New Mexico Junior College, Janzen led programs at Howard Payne University (2022) in Texas after serving as the head coach at Allen Community College (2018-21).  She was an assistant at Allen from (2014-2018)

Janzen spent three seasons (2018-21) as the head women's basketball coach at Allen Community College in Iola, Kansas.  Before becoming the head coach, Janzen also served as the assistant women's basketball coach at Allen for four seasons (2014-18).

Prior to Allen, Janzen was the assistant women's basketball coach at Southern Nazarene University (SNU) in Bethany, Oklahoma, where the team went 24-10 in 2012-2013, finishing as the 2013 NCCAA National Champions.

An alumna of SNU, Janzen earned her Bachelors of Science degree in Physical Education in 2007 while playing collegiate basketball for the SNU Storm. She graduated Magna Cum Laude and was part of SNU's 2004 National Championship women's basketball team.  Janzen also had a four-year stint as the assistant women's basketball coach at South Dakota School of Mines and Technology from 2008-2011. She then served as the graduate assistant coach at Eastern New Mexico University for 2011-12 season.

Janzen completed her master's degree in sports management from Eastern New Mexico University in 2013.

Janzen follows Greg Krause who led the Lady Mav program 43 years.
